Motorbike Covers
Motorbikes, the motor powered two wheeled vehicles; are the most common and most famous type of transport in the world. To maintain a motorbike in a good and glossy condition, a motorbike cover is essential. Motorbike covers comes in different varieties. One needs to be careful before choosing the right type of cover for the bike.
Before buying a cover certain things have to be taken into consideration. A good bike cover should protect the motorbike from dust, rust, dirt which in turn would prevent the painting from fading. A cover will also reduce the wear and tear of the bike’s part by preventing the dirt to get settled on the parts. If the motorbike is parked outside then it is must to cover the bike to maintain it in good conditions. Even if the bike is parked inside a garage, a cover would act as an added advantage and help to maintain the bike in proper condition.
The most basic and cheap covers are made of very thin sheets of rain cover. These types of covers are only useful during the dry season because it protects the bike from dirt and dust. These covers will not withstand heavy rains and they tend to tear quickly and easily. The only advantage of these types of covers is that they are light in weight and are easy to handle, they are also easy to fold and can be carried in a bag. When the cover is not in use they can be folded and thus won’t occupy much space.
Another kind of motorbike cover is made of thick and coarse material like heavy polyester. These covers are usually durable and will help protecting the bike during all the climatic changes. One of the major problems with thin covers is that if the cover is put on immediately after riding the bike, the hot exhaust pipe may burn a hole in it. This disadvantage can be overcome by thick variants. However, the thick covers will also face the same problem if used over a long period of time.
The disadvantage with thick covers is that the inside of the covers are made of rough and coarse material which will damage the polished paint work of the bike. Another disadvantage is that these are usually much heavier compared to others, so it becomes difficult to lift the cover and use it on the bike; they also occupy a lot of storage place as they cannot be folded into a smaller size.
To overcome these problems high quality bike covers are manufactured with a heat proof panel on the cover where the cover touches the exhaust pipe and the inside of the covers are made with a lining of soft cotton which will not damage the paint work. The higher quality covers are made of lighter material yet they are durable and strong.
The other types of covers are the full covers, half covers and dust covers. The most preferred type of cover is the full cover because it covers the motorcycle fully and gives the full protection to the bike against rain and dust. The half covers cover the body of the bike except the tires; this type is useful if the bike is parked inside the garage. The last type of cover is dust cover which prevents the dust from getting settled on the bike.
Another point to be considered while buying a cover is that it should be made of a breathable material, because the moisture should not be trapped inside it which will spoil the bike. The covers made of cheap plastic will trap the moisture inside the cover, so they should not be in consideration.
One of the most common problems with the covers is that they easily get blown off the bike and it becomes very easy to be removed by the thieves. There are covers which are manufactured to overcome these problems too. These days, covers are being manufactured with a pair of round openings or eyelets at the bottom which can be joined by tying them with a thick rope or by locking them with a padlock. This will ensure that the cover stays in place and also becomes difficult for the thieves to steal them.
